Mold Remediation Needed for Seekell Family
Dearest Friends and Family;
I'm writing on behalf of the Seekell family, Kevin, Amy, Caleb, Emily, Isaac, Abby, and Fred, and their extraordinary need of funds to remediate their home and keep up with medical bills that continue to mount. I planned to explain some details about their last year, but Amy so eloquently updated her FB page the other day and I decided to use her words...
"I have been quiet on FB but not because we don't have a lot going on. 2020 came and went and I wasn't sure what to say. Emily started feeling unwell in the winter of 2020 (after a near-full recovery from Lyme/PANS back in 2015) and many of you already know a lot of the pieces of her story....seizures, blackouts, unresponsiveness, paralysis, breathing difficulties, issues with eating, psychological effects, chronic pain, overwhelming fatigue...the list is too long to type here. She postponed her college plans, stopped working, and spent over 100 days in the hospital or in outpatient hospital programs, without much success in healing.
In April, Emily was hospitalized for a month and during that time, I underwent extensive testing for ovarian cancer. (Praise God all tests turned out ok but, please pray for my follow up ultrasound next Monday!) I remember the day I found out about the concerning cyst. I was talking to my mom on the phone and she was telling me that her doctor had just told her she only had a week to live when my doctor called on the other line. April was a tough month.
My mom passed away in May, we stumbled through the summer, and then Emily's health took a rapid decline in August. We have spent the past 6 months fighting alongside Emily for answers, praying for healing, and willing her to keep going and keep trusting through her suffering. Our lives were pretty much flipped upside down and we have been in survival mode. Praise God for friends and family who have helped out where they could and for my siblings who have gone above and beyond to care for my Dad and stepmom in FL while they have been ill!
We thought we were pretty much at rock bottom, but then we found out we weren't there yet. Some of the other kids started to have some unexplained symptoms this fall/winter and by God's grace, I was prompted to think about something I had always skimmed over in the past. Mold. After some testing and an inspection, we were told our home was unsafe and we shouldn't stay there. We left that same night. Praise God we had a place we could go!
We have some fairly major issues in our attic, some parts of our main floor, and in our basement walkout area. None of this was obvious if you weren't looking, but now that we know, it is clear that this is contributing, if not THE cause, to many of Emily's health issues. Praise God for potential answers!
As if the past year weren't hard enough, the journey continues. We will need to extensively remediate and renovate our home with funds we don't have, while living elsewhere, and find a specialist to help us with the health concerns. We will need to part with most of our possessions and begin anew. 2021 is looking to be a challenge, but we aren't going through it alone because God has promised He will walk through the fire and the flood with us. We still believe.
We believe that God has a purpose and a plan for each person in our family and that it is for good and for His glory. We believe that He will sustain us and that He will give us exactly what we need to get through this. Already, we have been able to keep going on so many days when we thought we couldn't. We are still here and we aren't giving up!! Each day brings a new opportunity for healing and to offer praise and thanksgiving so that's what we will choose to do.
If you think of us, please pray for us. We believe in the power of prayer and we are humbled knowing that we are loved by you all!!"
Please share this page and consider helping the Seekell family in whatever way you can. Every dollar and every prayer is exceedingly appreciated. Thank you and God bless you.
