Toxic Mold in Family Home

Chelsea is a single mom of 3 boys and has worked several jobs over the years to save up money to put a down payment on her first home purchase. After years of saving and searching for the perfect home for her and the boys, she finally purchased her first home a little over a year ago. They live in Michigan.

Within a short amount of time, her littlest guy, Brady, age 3 now, started developing signs of illness and asthma. For close to a year, Chelsea took him to the doctor and emergency rooms over and over. He was given meds and a nebulizer to help. Shortly after, Chelsea herself starting exhibiting signs of illness; from neurological symtoms to general illness. She then decided to have her house checked. This was when it was uncovered that their home is full of all sorts of mold. Some very toxic and others not as bad. There was a list of more than 10 different types of mold present in her home. Remediation was estimated at over 20 thousand dollars and is not covered by insurance. Chelsea tried to work with a company that did some of the work for her, however, months later with additional testing, the mold is still present and illness continues.

As a result, Chelsea and the 3 boys need to find somewhere they can rent and live (while still paying the mortgage on her home) and also try to come up with the funds to make her house safe and clear of the mold. She is trying to look into an attorney as well, since the mold seems to have originated from additions being added onto the house from previous owners. These additons did not seem to have a permit taken out, which caused water leaks into the house and walls. None of this was disclosed when she purchased, nor was anything mentioned during the inspection.

We humbly ask for your help so this young mom of 3 boys, that already works several jobs, can make their home safe. We want them to have a safe place to stay while this is getting resolved. She simply is not able to do this on her own due to the high costs. Her and the kids are in a desperate and heartbreaking situation that no one should have to be in.
