Hi my name is Dawn. My friend, Pamela Foran, a widow and mother of five, recently downsized in Nov 2024 to an older house. About three weeks ago she discovered that the previous owner had taped over a leak in the refrigerator water line and never disclosed said leak in the sale. The damage caused by the leak finally became visible in the downstairs ceiling and drywall a few weeks ago. Further inspection revealed black mold on kitchen cabinets, drywall and rotten flooring and studs. Insurance will not pay for repairs since it supposedly was a slow leak that "started weeks/months ago" according to the insurance adjustor.
Comsequently, the family is living with a kitchen that has limited functionality, floors that are down to the bare sub flooring and open walls exposing the insulation and dust and mold spores.
Repairs will be over $8,000 and are absolutely necessary' to remove the mildew and possibly more black mold that cannot be seen as well as provide new floors and walls and cabinets to replace those that were ruined.
Pamela has always given her all to her family and is hesitant to ask for help, but now has very little to fall back on since her recent divorce. She has some amazing friends who will do the repairs for much less than hiring out, which is a blessing.
Any bit of help is much appreciated and will be used to pay for the supplies and the labor to make the Foran's kitchen livable again.
Materials needed to redo the kitchen (wall repair, mold remediation supplies new flooring and cabinets that couldn't be salvaged, and appliances together are about $7,000.) and labor costs will run approximately $1,500.
