When Swami Kriyananda chose to leave his body at his home in Assisi — originally Seva Kutir, later renamed Moksha Kutir — he transformed that space into a living portal of his consciousness. Whenever I enter that house, it feels as though Swamiji is right there — about to walk into the living room and welcome me. So tangible is his presence.
I have no doubt this space will become a place of pilgrimage for thousands in the years to come.
But as things stand, aside from entering the house and meditating, there’s little else to offer visitors as a space to attune more deeply to his vibration. Already, with devotees meditating in the house four times a week, we’re seeing visible signs of wear on the carpets, furniture, and the house itself. And so the question naturally arises: how will we accommodate the increasing numbers of souls who will come seeking Swamiji’s darshan (even though they may not know it)?
That question lies at the heart of this project.
The second inspiration behind this project is Swamiji’s own deep love of beauty. As we did with the Ananda Café, the thread we’re following is this: Would Swamiji enjoy spending time in such a place? Where would he sit? Where would he host his friends?
We want to create a sacred garden that requires no explanation — where visitors, whether familiar with our path or not, can feel that “consciousness of liberation” the moment they arrive. A space that communicates Swamiji’s vibration through harmony, beauty and expansion.
This isn’t a project just for Ananda Assisi or even for Europe, but a legacy site — one that should reflect the magnitude of what happened there. A gift to the world.
