Hi Everyone!
My name is Moe, I am a experienced gentleman who is about 11 years old. My world has been a little crazy this last couple weeks. It all started when I got an upset tummy. My vet said there was a softball size mass in my in my tummy and it was my spleen, and I needed to have emergency surgery to get it out. My mom took me to the best doctors in NC, and we got my spleen out. After that I was in doggie ICU for about 4 days. Mom says I did great after surgery and we would wait to see what the pathology results where. My mom stayed as much as she could, and slept there too. Surgery was about $5000 human dollars. When the path results came back my mom tearfully told me I had hemangiosarcoma (cancer). Its a very aggressive malignant tumor of blood vessel cells. Most common in golden retrievers! Who knew? Without treatment I only have 20-90 days to live. Mom and the vet said I need chemo once every three weeks to help, and its different in dogs than humans, It actually makes me feel better, like a puppy again because of the way it is formulated. Its about $600 human dollars for every treatment. I also have to take supplements made from mushrooms to help stop the cancer from growing and those come from Canada. With treatment I can live about another two years. My mom promises me I will always get the best care no matter what.
My Mom rescued me when I was a puppy, I was found in a box on a side of a road in Carthage NC. Luckily my mom took me home and gave me the biggest flea bath. Since then I have been my mom’s whole world, and her heart, and she is mine. Its been a rough last year, we moved a lot since my Dad left to start his new family, and does not want us anymore. But we are lucky that we have each other. After talking with Mom, we have decided that my mom is no quitter, and neither am I. We want to fight, we want to live. There are so many things to live for, and I am not done. My mom and I do everything together, we enjoy guarding the house from an army of chuckles (squirrels), & evil mail men. We love running, hiking, swimming at the lake, back yard barbecues, going for coffee, ice cream, playing with my toys, fighting over the pillow, chasing cats, canoeing, arts and crafts, official taste tester, helping mom with PT (physical training), and bringing joy to others that need it the most. I love to make people smile. It’s what I do best. My mom says I am her angel here on earth and we are not ready for me to fly away home yet. She is my battle buddy, we do everything together. I don’t know what Mom is going to do if I am not here, so my work here is not done. I have a new baby sister, she was found under a truck, and I have to show her the ropes. I need help with the treatment and am going to make this the best two years ever!
All money raised it going directly to my healthcare, and if anything that is raised over will go to the Golden Retriever Foundation, and Veterinary Specialty Hospital of the Carolinas for Golden Retrievers suffering with hemangiosarcoma. It will be called the Moe’s Foundation. So hopefully we will understand the meaning, raise awareness, increase early detection and find more treatment options of this horrible cancer. No dog deserves to die from this, not after all they have done for us. Thank you for your helping us fight, and please spread the word.
