Hello, my name is Mohammed Makki, and I’d like to thank you for taking the time to visit this fundraiser.

On September 21st, 2025, I will be running my first-ever half-marathon to raise funds for the Canadian Cancer Society. Cancer has sadly become a common thread in many Canadian families, and every dollar raised for organizations like the Canadian Cancer Society helps to create a brighter future for those affected.

This cause is especially personal to me. In February 2025, my older brother Hadi was diagnosed with Stage 4 Metastatic Lung Cancer and only given a few years. At only 30 years old, Hadi is a non-smoker, lives an active lifestyle, and his diagnosis came as a complete shock to our family. By the time of his diagnosis, cancer had already spread to his lungs, liver, spine, and brain. Despite the grim prognosis, Hadi has never given up. From day one, he chose to fight, not just for himself, but for his parents, his sister, his niece, his cousins, his friends, and everyone fortunate enough to be in his life.

To me, Hadi is so much more than just a brother. He’s my voice of reason, my rock, and someone I can always rely on, no matter the situation. He’s been the one to encourage me to push forward, and now it’s my turn to support him in this battle.
Before his diagnosis, Hadi had always joked about running a half-marathon. It was something he really wanted to do. Now, though, due to his illness, that dream will not be possible for him. That’s why I’m running this race in his honor—even though, admittedly, I’m not much of a runner. But for my big brother I guess I have to do it.

In addition to honoring Hadi, this fundraiser is also dedicated to Natalie Lynda, my best friend Nathyn's mother. Natalie was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2022. Sadly, her battle ended on November 27th, 2024, when she passed away. Natalie was the embodiment of positivity—full of energy, love, and excitement. She touched the hearts of everyone she met, offering warmth, kindness, and support to all. To me, Natalie wasn’t just a friend; she gave me confidence, love, and most importantly, and she gave me a second family that I will forever cherish.

This half-marathon is for Hadi and Natalie—two of the strongest people I’ve ever known. Both of them were dealt an extremely difficult hand at far too young an age, but they faced it with unmatched courage. I hope that this is just the beginning of honoring their legacies and the incredible strength they’ve shown through their battles with cancer.

Any donation, big or small, will go a long way in supporting cancer research and the Canadian Cancer Society’s mission to improve the lives of those affected by cancer.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your support.

Sincerly,
Mohammed Makki
