Modern Marvels Dance Company 2024 Season

Hello! My name is Kate O'Hanlon Bruns, and I founded Modern Marvels Dance Company in 2016 with a mission to develop dance performances that are honest, beautiful, and accessible to all audiences. Our work is collaborative and often reflects our lived experiences, bringing personal stories to light through movement in hopes of promoting individual expression and allowing others to find parts of themselves in our art.

This year, we will be finishing INFJ, an evening-length work that explores the 4 components of my Myers-Briggs personality Type: Introversion (I), Intuition (N), Feeling (F), and Judgment (J). We toured to St. Louis, MO over the summer to participate in the STL Fringe Festival and will be closing our season in Chicago at Links Hall on November 15 & 16.

INFJ premiered in 2018 in Chicago, IL, was presented at DanceChicago in 2019, and accepted to IndyFringe Festival for Summer 2020. Our 2020 performance was unfortunately canceled due to the pandemic, and the company was on sabbatical from 2022-2024 while I completed graduate studies in counseling & dance/movement therapy. We are thrilled to be back for our 2024 season and to finally present the finished version of the work!

MMDC places great priority on fairly compensating the artists who offer their time, talent, and creative energy to our creative process. Our projected budget for 2024 includes:

Rehearsal and Performance Pay for 3 Company Members: $5,000.00

Rehearsal & Venue Rentals: $3,000.00

Technical Crew, Costumes, and Operating Expenses: $2,000.00

$60.00: Pays 3 dancers for 1 rehearsal

$75.00: Pays 1 dancer for a small performance

$150.00: Pays 1 dancer for a major performance

$225.00: Pays 3 dancers for 1 small performance

$250.00: Pays 3 dancers for 1 month of rehearsals

$450.00: Pays 3 dancers for 1 major performance

All money generated from this crowdfunding campaign will be used to directly compensate MMDC dancers. If we exceed our goal, I will use the additional funds to provide myself with an Artistic Director stipend and will then equally distribute any remaining balance between the Company Members.
