Mochi's Fundraiser for Radioactive Iodine Cancer Treatment
Donation protected
Hello, my name's Michelle and I am hoping to raise some funds to get my senior cat Mochi (10 years old) in for the Radioactive Iodine (I-131) treatment with a specialist. He was diagnosed about 3 months ago with Hyperthyroidism and has been taking 5mg of Methimazole twice daily since. That has helped and he has put on weight since, so hooray for that! Unfortunately, as of Mochi's recent follow up on 05/21/2025, my vet found a cancerous tumor on his Thyroid along with mild Kidney disease which was originally hidden due to the high Thyroid levels he had at the time. My veterinarian suggested the I-131 treatment which, in their experience with other patients, has had very positive outcomes.
I've been able to get a quote from where I am looking which is at one of the SAGE Veterinary Centers near me. They quoted $361 for a consultation which DOES NOT include any extra diagnostic fees they might need to do and the treatment itself is $1,923. This includes the procedure as well as room/board as Mochi will have to stay there for at least 72 hours until the radiation levels are safe/low enough for him to come home. They also mentioned that they don't use sedation unless it's needed. Mochi's is a sweet boy but he can get a bit squirmy. If they do feel that sedation is needed, they quoted that at about $100-$200.
SAGE also mentioned in documents sent that Mochi will need follow up appointments at 1 month and again at 3 months.
If anything is left of the donations after his procedure and everything is covered, I will save it for any future medical needs he might have including before mentioned follow-ups and the off chance of his Thyroid issues reoccurring.
Any and all help is greatly appreciated and even if you may not be able too, I super appreciate ya'll taking the time to read my plight for my lil Mochi-Moo.
