Moby Gorl is our 2 year old french bulldog. She's lived a very happy and spoiled life that all dogs deserve, until she was recently diagnosed with IVDD. A degenerative spinal disease common in Dachshunds and French Bulldogs that allows for a disc to slip easily because of the lack of cushioning tissue between vertebrates. Because of Mobys' anatomy, she has very little ability to self recover making surgery the best option for Moby. IVDD is a painful condition that can worsen overnight and cause severe nerve damage and paralysis of the rear legs.
Moby experienced her first episode of IVDD symptoms in November 2022 which we thought was just a small injury. Late last week, Moby experienced a more severe episode where she woke up unable to walk with lots of weakness in her rear legs. I rushed her to the vet and we underwent x-rays immediately. We were diagnosed with IVDD where we were given pain medicine and told to rest and hope for the best... 2 days later, Moby woke up worse with no ability to stand on her own. Her IVDD was worsening but she still had sensations in her back legs. We were fortunate to see the neurologist in time and do an MRI scan where we could find out the state of Moby's spinal cord and understand where her disc slipped. Immediately following the scan, Moby was in surgery to repair her slipped disc. Moby has an 85-95% success rate to return to "normal" where she can resume walking and live a life without pain and discomfort. She will be able to return home to us soon.
Moby's recovery journey will be long and tough and her life will be very different. She will likely need to rehabilitate with physical therapy, exercise, and see vets even more regularly than she was already. Moby did not have insurance at the time of her diagnosis meaning there are no reimbursements for Moby's surgery, medications, doctor bills. We're fortunate enough to have gotten Moby the help she needed and are doing the most we can to provide the best help for our girl to make a full recovery but we are left with thousands and thousands of dollars in vet bills that we hope to recover from. We are happy to accept any donations (no matter how small) for Moby's recovery. Every single penny helps and will go towards Moby's expenses. In the event that we receive any surplus, I would be happy to donate additional funds to a bully rescue where we can help another Frenchie or Bully in need of IVDD care. Moby appreciates any support that you can give and she is so lucky to be loved and supported by so many of you <3
