Moby Eyes

Hi, my name is Joanne. I have always loved dogs, and they have been a large part of my life. I became very experienced with training dogs and competed in several Obedience type events - eventually from a wheelchair as I have progressive MS. Once I deteriorated to the point that I had to give up all dog sports, I turned to internet-based dog rescue to maintain my connection to the dog community and a way to benefit dogs. I am proud to say that I have helped save the lives of many dogs by facilitating their adoption by others.
I rescued Moby for myself from an animal shelter when he was less than a year old. He had come into the large American shelter as a stray and became one of many small white dogs hoping to become one of the lucky to be adopted. Using my experience in dog training, I managed to teach Moby to do several tricks, even though I have no meaningful use of my hands. Moby’s specialty was consistently hitting the “help” button for the times when I was left alone.
But, Moby has now lost most of his eyesight due to cataracts - he can no longer see the "help” button, nor can he easily navigate his way to it. His vision can be restored with surgery to remove cataracts, but the cost is prohibitive to myself and my husband, who lost his job during the pandemic. With barely enough money to pay the mortgage on a house more suitable to my needs that we purchased a year before the pandemic, there is none left to pay for any surgery.
Can you help pay for Moby’s surgery so he can continue to keep me safe during the times that I am alone? He is only seven years old and should have many years left to do his job. The ability to have the independence to be alone is something that I can no longer take for granted, and his being able to hit that “help” button makes me feel better in doing so. Thank you so much for any consideration you give this request.
