Let's Mobilize for Maria....
Our friend Maria is a woman in transition - not from drugs, alcohol, nor police related matters – but rather from economic circumstances. A recent car accident led to devastating health impacts and have temporarily impacted her ability to work full-time and stay on top of her bills, in addition to leaving her without transportation.
Maria is a hard-worker and has been working online and in part-time jobs as her medical conditions allow. Unfortunately, Safford, Arizona, the rural city she lives in, offers limited medical and employment opportunities. Maria moved to Arizona at the suggestion of a friend after she was laid off from her high-tech employer in California during the 2008 Great Recession.
We believe that in Tucson, Maria can readily find gainful employment, and get back on her feet in a short time. Furthermore, she will be able to access appropriate healthcare services she needs to ensure a full recovery from the effects of her accident.
We are requesting funds to move Maria into stable housing (most likely in Tucson, the closest mid-sized city), access medical care and cover other basic living costs as she gets re-established and back to work. We identified furnished rentals in Tucson for $500 a month and will use these funds to guaranty payment of the lease for up to one year. Any amounts not needed for rent, will be used to move Maria out of Safford and supplement monthly living expenses in her new home as she gets settled.
Thank you so much for your help.
*Team Maria is made up of three of Maria's former roommates and grad-school friends - Camille, Rosa and Kimberly.
