Mobility Van for Mark Jessoe
Donation protected
Please join me in helping to raise money for my sister, Rebecca Jessoe and her husband, Mark, to purchase a much needed mobility van!
Mark and Rebecca live in Crystal Lake, Illinois with their 14 year old daughter, Arwen. Mark is 45 and has a rare neuro-immune disease called Neuromyelitis Optica (NMO) that has left him with severe damage to his optic nerves and spinal cord, in chronic pain due to nerve damage and spasticity and a host of other health challenges that accompany a central nervous system disease.
The past 4 years have been such a difficult journey for their family. Mark's disease was so difficult to diagnose that they consulted 7 different neurologist (and a dozen specialists) before spending nearly 2 weeks at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota in January of 2018. By that point Mark had been unable to work for nearly a year and was no longer able to do the things he most loved like running, taking long walks with his dogs, spending time at local parks and the beach with his family, and volunteering at local assisted living facilities.
The Jessoe family lives in a split level house knowing that as Mark continued to lose his mobility they'd need to move into a wheelchair friendly home soon, and have been planning to make that move in the spring of 2019. Moves are always expensive, especially after transitioning to a one income household and taking on years of medical bills. Then in November, Mark suffered a cartilage tear in his left hip caused by a bone deformity that had developed. After spending weeks inpatient at the Shirley Ryan Ability Lab, they are now transitioning Mark to a fully powered wheelchair, which he will receive at the end of February. This chair will do wonders for helping to manage his pain and give him back some of the independence and quality of life he desperately needs. However, mobility vans are very expensive and along with moving and medical bills they find themselves in need of financial help - and that's where you can jump in to help them out!
Any assistance is very much appreciated. We need your help in spreading the word, so please share this on all of your social media pages.
