My name is SarahRose and I am a 28-year-old living with chronic illness. I am raising funds to support the purchase of a Mobility Service Dog. My current service dog, Paisley, is 8 years old and is not physically capable of the kind of mobility assistance I now need.
I have been struggling with Hypermobile Ehlers Danlos Syndrome (hEDS), Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS), and Mast Cell Activation Syndrome (MCAS), and my symptoms have been worsening over time. Between these three issues impacting all the systems in my body, every day feels like a different challenge arises, from extreme dizziness and fatigue to joint injuries and chronic pain.
Most days I am unable to do basic tasks like bending over to pick things up, showering or washing my hair by myself, or walking very far without my walker, let alone work and drive. This means that I am currently very dependent on my family to help me with my ever-changing needs, which is taxing on us all. My mom is forced to balance running her own business with now being my primary caregiver.
A mobility service dog will provide me with the help and independence that I need. The dog will be trained to perform tasks like helping me stand up, providing stability and bracing when I get dizzy, picking up objects I drop, and more. This will not only help me gain independence and functionality but also ease the caregiving burden on my family.
On the days when I start to feel hopeless, I watch the Instagram videos of the service dogs in training at the Service Dog Connection to remind myself that four-legged help is just around the corner.
I urge you to check them out at or @theservicedogconnection on Instagram to learn more about the amazing work they are doing to provide service dogs to people with all different kinds of disabilities.
It would mean the world to me if you could share my fundraising campaign and donate if you can. You can also donate to me directly via Venmo (@SarahRose-Jarvis) or click the link to donate through GoFundMe.
Thank you so much for your support!
