Mobility for Making Memories for a Man with MSA

Donation protected
I am 44 years old, and recently I was diagnosed with a rare neurodegenerative condition called multiple system atrophy or (MSA). My ability to do things with my family is quickly diminishing. In my last neurology appointment, my neurologist told me to Seize the day!" A few months ago, my 15-year-old daughter said, "I feel like the dad you used to be is already dead." It felt horrible hearing this.

I want my kids to see that I am still trying to live as best as I can before I lose even more of my cognitive the physical abilities. I want to create meaningful memories for my 6 children (age range 3-17) and my wife before I am bedridden and ultimately die from Multiple System Atrophy. I'm trying to think simply. I want to be able to take my kids to the national parks in Utah, where we live, and be with them while they experience the beauty of nature. Due to my illness, I missed out on going to Arches with my family.

To experience these memories with my children, I need a mobility device that is suited to the outdoors. There is a mobility device called "The Rig", made by a company called notawheelchair.com. This device would allow me to see the National Parks and go on hikes with my children and spouse, which I would otherwise not be able to do. Disabled persons can use electric mobility devices on trails within national and state parks. However, most electric wheelchairs are not rugged enough for many of the trails. "The Rig" would allow me to go to places with my children that I would otherwise not be able to go.

For more information about Multiple System Atrophy (MSA) visit: https://www.dysautonomiainternational.org/pdf/SummaryOfMultipleSystemAtrophy.pdf The condition is progressive and terminal (there is no treatment or cure at this time) with most people living between 6-10 years from diagnosis. Most people lose all mobility and are bedridden within five years of being diagnosed. Walking is painful, and exhausting, and I am a constant fall risk. I have been the sole provider for my family and now everything is having to change.

The goal is to raise enough money to pay for "The Rig" plus tax.
