As many of you know, I have Cerebral Palsy, a life long disorder that impacts my mobility. Recently, I encountered an unexpected injury. Back in June I had an injury which left me unable to weight-bear on my right leg (my good leg) for like two weeks. At that time X-rays showed no indication of a ligament or meniscal damage. In October, I began experiencing the same symptoms again. After getting an MRI, I had actually torn my distal hamstring both times and ruptured a Baker's cyst and was informed that I needed to limit almost all weight-bearing for the next couple months due, in part to my gait compensation and stability, as I can't risk any further tears (complete rupture) or falls. While working diligently with me team of amazing people, there is also concern that I may have an additional movement disorder on top of the CP so I'm working with specialists to determine this. As most of you know I am an occupational therapist and am very passionate about the work that I do. I'm also not the type of person to not continue to work due to setbacks. With that said, I have been working with my insurance company and a wheelchair company (as I recently met my deductible), however the insurance company informed me that in order for my wheelchair to be paid for and delivered (expected date: February) I would need to meet my deductible again. I was also informed that threshold ramps are not covered by insurance so those have to be purchased out of pocket. In addition, I am in need of replacing my tub with a walk-in shower so that I can independently shower, safely. These costs are currently out of my range to cover without assistance. I also want to continue to be as independent as I can at my job and within my personal life. Having a permanent wheelchair, an accessible household, and a safe means of transportation will allow me to do many things that I have not been able to do for some time as my mobility has continued to change. I'm asking go for financial assistance to help me on my journey with these changes. I truly appreciate anything that you can contribute! Much love!
