Mobile Literacy Library

How It All Started

The Little Literacy Library (LLL) is a touching initiative conceived by Nikitah Rajput-Ray (Junior Ambassador at NNEdPro Global Institute for Food, Nutrition and Health) in 2021. An initiative dedicated to addressing the educational gap in marginalised communities by breaking the cycle of illiteracy among children in these communities. After successfully raising funds through a Diwali workshop, the vision became a reality for Nikitah when the Little Literacy Library was established in 2022.

Our Mission

At the core of our mission is the belief that education is a fundamental right for every child. We strive to provide a safe and nurturing environment where they can learn and grow. Through this initiative. We hope to ignite the untapped potential of the next generation and collaboratively integrate English language proficiency with education in food, nutrition, health, and life skills. To motivate and engage the children, we provide nutritious food monthly and free meals whenever our Mobile Teaching Kitchen (MTK) unit visits a particular slum area.

Our Work In Action

Since launching the Little Literacy Library (LLL) project in 2022 in two Kolkata slums, Chetla and RG Kar, the Chetla Library has celebrated its first anniversary, and the RG Kar Library is thriving, currently supporting 16 children. These spaces are managed by the library assistants, librarians, and an Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) teacher. Together, they ensure every child in these underserved communities has access to books and educational materials. Our libraries offer bilingual literacy materials in both English and Bengali, catering to children between the ages of 5 and 15.

Combined, these libraries have significantly impacted 45 children, providing education, engaging activities, nutritious food, promoting healthy eating habits, and reinforcing WASH (Water Sanitation and Hygiene) principles.
