Nursing Home Musician

I’m Rev. Kenn “Spoon” Blanchard

Thank you for supporting this project. I am buying mobile audio equipment (busking amp, mics, stands, cables, table, etc.) that I can use to entertain the elders at nursing homes in my area.

In this third quarter of my life, I am becoming more of what I always wanted to be. I want to be remembered as a blessing to others. The global pandemic allowed me to focus on playing guitar again. The trials of caring for a sick wife pushed me into a place that only my faith and love of music pulled me out. I have been to more funerals than birthday parties lately. I have seen younger people leave this life faster than I remember. I have watched the warehousing of the elderly, and sick at nursing facilities that are dying from isolation faster than time or diseases. I can help. With your help and encouragement, I plan to play my guitar for them.

I fell in love with blues music influenced by the Roots genre of Americas' history. I quickly learned that it was harder to play simple blues well as any other form of music. Studying the blues and the connection I share with it made it more interesting. I hope to share that with some of the folks that lived the life I sing about. This request is twofold. I am using the algorhythms to announce what I am doing even if no one sends me a dime. I am going to do this no matter what.

I've been playing in church every Sunday for the past three years and improving. I'm still learning and excited that I can. In this stage of my life its less about ego and more about growth and achieving goals.

Research has shown that it can lessen the impact of depression and anxiety. I believe this.

Playing in front of people should help both those in the facilities and myself. Help me and help others in funding this request. Hearing music is supposed to help orientate and map alternative routes to reorganize our brains. I could use more of that. How about you?
