“My oldest friends will say that for as long as I’ve been aware of my queerness, I’ve been talking about getting top surgery. Similar to many other genderqueer people, my chest is a source of gender dysphoria that weighs on my day-to-day state of mind. This surgery would be gender-affirming, would help me feel more comfortable in my body, and provide the peace of mind to focus on growing other aspects of life.
I am a St. Paul native. Currently I support youth in learning as a school-based special education paraprofessional. I have also developed a passion for cooking healthful, soulful food for my friends, family and neighbors. My vision for my future role in the community is to be a food business owner, and a wellness space and resource curator.
This is the first time I’ve had the stability to seriously pursue top surgery. However, it is expensive, invasive, and requires extensive recovery care. With the world looking like it does, I do not know if there will ever be a right time to wait for this surgery. I do know that I now have the security of a support system and community, and self assurance that this is the right next step. I’m asking for your support in reaching this goal. I appreciate anything you can give.
Love,
Mo”
