Hi Community,
Most of you are likely unaware that our dear Mo was diagnosed with colon cancer in May. During a routine screening colonoscopy, a large suspicious mass was found. After a series of tests which confirmed that the mass was cancerous, she was scheduled for surgery. In early August, she underwent a colon resection to remove the cancerous mass. Fortunately, they were able to remove the mass and all of the cancer! The less fortunate news is that some cancer cells were found in a nearby lymph node, and she will need to undergo chemotherapy in order to have the best chance at continuing to remain cancer-free.
In her self-sufficient and tenacious way, she has been navigating her diagnosis, appointments with specialists, surgery and recovery, graduate school, and single parenthood largely on her own. It is time for her community to come together to support her so she can continue to heal and have the best chance of returning to full health and a full life.
Managing all of her medical appointments and physical recovery means that she has not been able to work as much, and she will likely need to take additional time off work and school in the months to come.
Mo is very fortunate to have excellent healthcare, and the majority of her medical expenses have been covered. Your donations will help Mo with the following:
- Supplement the wages lost over the summer and in the months to come as she completes her cancer treatment and help pay for basic household expenses for her and Archer.
- Allow Mo to purchase healthy foods to nourish her body as she continues to recover from major abdominal surgery and undergoes chemotherapy.
- Complementary medical treatments like acupuncture that will aid in her healing and may help to alleviate some of the side effects of the medications she will be taking.
- Help pay for a house cleaner and home organizer so that she does not have to worry about household tasks when she may be suffering from chemo side effects.
If you are able, please donate so we can create a container of support for Mo so that she can navigate this challenging time with the feeling of her loving community of support around her. Mo understands that everyone has different capacities and is able to share their resources in different ways. If you are unable to show your support via financial means, please reach out to me, Julia, at (206) [phone redacted] with other ideas that you have (e.g., a home-cooked meal, a helpful cancer healing resource, a special something for Archer).
