Bruce Speight Medical Fund

Donation protected
Hi, my name is Jessica and I am starting this page to help raise money to pay for medical bills that are very quickly accumulating and will continue to increase in quantity and amount for Bruce Speight.
How do i know him you ask?! Well, two and a half years ago i started working at my current place of employment in the ICU (yes lydia, THE icu) and this is where i met Bruce's wife, Lydia. We very quickly became good friends and have continued to grow into best friends. She and Bruce are loved by my whole family. When Bruce is around my boys are completely and utterly obsessed with him! (mommy and daddy who?)
Bruce is a very bright, cheereful, fun, loving, dedicated husband, outgoing, practacle jokster, DIY'er... the list could go on for hours. He and his wife have a dog and four cats aka their furbabies.
So... the reason behind this page...
Sunday March 6th 2016 Bruce, at the age of 32, and his wife woke up early that morning to disover that Bruce seemed to be Paralized on the right side of his body and unable to speak. Immediatley Lydia jumped up, and out the door they went to Randolph Memorial Hospital where they went through the emergency department. While there they medical staff performed a CT scan looking for a clot as they suspected that Bruce had suffered an acute stroke. From Randolph Bruce was taken by ambulance to Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem, there they ran more tests, one of which was an MRI that revelaed a large clot in his left coratid artery, this scan also indicated that a large part of the left side of the brain had been affected from the stroke as well. Bruce was then rushed into emergency surgery to have the clot removed. Surgery was a success (thank you god!) and Bruce showed some slight movement in his right leg following surgery and was aslo able to say his full name repeatidly.
Monday Bruce passed his swallowing test and was able to have some food and drink. (yay!) He even squeezed Lydias fingers with his right hand (the side affected by the stroke), and later that day was able to squeeze the nurses hand. Since then he hasnt been able to repeat squeezing with that hand, but hey, all things take time right!?
Today Bruce went through some physical therapy and with the help of Lydia and a nurse was able to walk, slowly and very carefully (it is very hard for him to move and place his right foot without lots of concentration & coaching) to his room door and back to his bed. They are working on communication with head nods which seems to be helping some.
This is going to be a very long, and challenging journey for Lydia & Bruce, not to mention all of the expenses already accumilating. Bruce has been in the Neurology ICU since Sunday, been to two different ER's, and had numerous CT & MRI scans. Tomorrow they will be repeating the MRI (we guess to compare the intial images to now) and hopefully if all is well (no swelling or bleeding) he will be able to move to a regular hospital room out of the ICU. Once Bruce is released from the hospital he will then be transfered to a in-patient rehabilitaion center where he will stay for atleast 3 weeks doing 3 hours (or maybe more once he gets stronger) of physical therapy daily. The doctors are currently not able to say how much damage was done, or how much of the brain will heal, only that it takes six to twelve months for the brain to completly heal from and injury after a stroke. That being said, who knows if and when Bruce will be able to return to work, and Lydia has missed work as well to care for and support Bruce in this difficult time. Please help Lydia and Bruce with the medical expenses.

I know that everyone has their own bills to pay, but it would really mean a lot to me if we could all pitch in together and help them out in their time of need. Any amount will help! Even just sharing this gofundme page would help greatly! I truly, from the bottom of my heart, thank each and every person that is able to dontate or share this cause. Bruce is a wonderful man, and im praying that he beats the odds and has us all standing in awe when he makes a full recoery!

Thank YOU!!
