My name is Deanna Kyriazopoulos, I am a 16 year old Australian Taewkondo Athlete from Sydney. I am currently in Year 11. I am seeking assistance and would like to brief you on my achievements to outline why I am in desperate need of sponsorship.
On Sunday 08 February 2015, I competed in the Australian World Championship Selections at the Australian Institute of Sport in Canberra. I am still a junior but was eligible because of my birth year to try out for a position on the Senior Australian National Team. This was an amazing experience for me and there was no expectation for me to win this event. I was successful in winning Gold at this event in my weight division of -46kg and as a result, I have now secured a position on the Australian Senior National Team to travel to Russia in May for the Senior World Taekwondo Championships that will be held in the city of Chelyabinsk. I would also like to point out that I am the youngest member on the Senior National Team.
I am still in shock that I have managed to qualify for the World Championships at this young age of 16. There is minimal funding in the sport of Taekwondo and it is extremely difficult to participate or take part in these events without the support of my family (which I have placed lots of financial burden on) and the community. There are many international events in the lead up to the World Championships that I have been advised by my coaches to attend in order to have the best preparation and experience that I can fro the World Championships in May. I am also trying to raise funds to be able to travel to the Swiss Open and Dutch Open both held in March to give me experience on the World stage.
If there is any way that the community can sponsor me on this journey, it would mean so much to me and I would appreciate it greatly. With minimal or no funding it can be impossible to compete at an international level. This is a dream come true for me to attend the World Championships at this young age.
