MNO Racing for Life Against Kidney Failure
Donation protected
On March 27, 2019, Nicole Ostler rushed to the emergency room with her husband at 4:30 in the morning. Her 30-year old husband of just over a year and a half was admitted to the ICU. Up to this point, his treatments of steroids for Stage 4 kidney failure had been working, but unexpectedly turned septic. After a week in the hospital, Matt Ostler was released to go home and begin preparations for dialysis.
From the beginning, Matt has been a fighter. He was born with 11p Deletion Syndrome, making him susceptible to Wilms-Tumor Cancer of the Kidneys – a disease that he fought and overcame at 18 months old. As he grew up, he had twenty-five surgeries to correct problems associated with the Syndrome. Throughout it all, he was able to overcome any physical disadvantages to graduate from High School, serve a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and continue on to college. At the age of 24, he was diagnosed with Colon Cancer, which he fought through, beat, and is in remission.
He would tell you the best day of his life came on July 7, 2017 when he married his sweetheart, Nicole Widmer. Shortly into their marriage, Matt began having health problems when his remaining kidney function percentage began to drop. Nicole has been by his side through it all. She has also taken time away from work to make sure Matt has the best, round the clock care.
With both currently unable to work and expensive medical procedures ahead, we are setting up a fundraiser to help them through this difficult time. Any help would mean so much. Thank you for your generous support!
