About MNDEFIANCE
Mark Williams was diagnosed with MND in mid 2022 and has refused to be defined by the limitations and difficulties that the diagnosis presents. In doing so, he is inspiring others into action to raise awareness as well as being a beacon of light for other MND warriors. Seeing how his friends and community have rallied round him and his family shows the true mark of the man.
MNDEFIANCE, as of November 2023, is currently being registered, by Mark, as a trust that aims to raise funds to assist the warriors and the families of those who are living with MND.
The Challenge:
10 4 10.
Pen-Y-Fan. Ten times. Ten families.
Starting on Friday 19th April 2024, we will be ascending Pen-Y-Fan a total of 10 ascents in 24 hours. In doing this, we will rack up nearly 18,000ft of elevation and around 48.5 miles. Anyone who knows Pen-Y-Fan, knows the brutality and difficulty within those steep slopes. There's a reason UK Special Forces utilise it for their selection tests. With a summit of 886m above sea level and with lung bursting routes to get to it, The Fan gives the perfect metaphor for the everyday mountains that MND warriors and their families have to climb.
We are aiming to raise as much money as possible, to be split equally between 10 families and MND warriors that Mark has been in touch with. We're hoping that the 10 4 10 challenge is the springboard onto more and more events and fundraising for those who need it. Equally as important as the funds raised, is the awareness. We need to keep pushing the conversation, pushing the needle forward and one day pushing towards a world without MND.
All funds raised will be transferred to the MNDEFIANCE Trust, once it has been set up.
