James Girley's family

James was admitted to Abbott Northwestern Hospital on December 9th 2014 for strep A pneumonia. The strep A spread thru his blood stream and put him into septic shock which caused him to go into cardiac arrest. He was revived and stabilized but his organs continued to weaken through the day and evening of December 10th. Early Thursday morning they did surgery and placed James on ECMO (life support.)  A very dangerous surgery but needed to support his organs. He was put into a induced coma to help his organs. His heart was strong enough to remove the major ECMO on 12/19/2014.   Within the next week he was given a trach for his breathing and a feeding tube for nutrition. He is quadriparesis (paralized)  due to critial illness myopathy (muscle breakdown and fatigue.) He has multiple wounds including the right groin wound with packing from ECMO site. (Trouble in healing due to nutrition level low.)

On January 8th 2015 James was discharged to Bethesda rehab Hospital but unfortunately re-admitted to Abbott 4 days later with low blood pressure and infection. He continues to be in ICU and Dialysis 3 times a week. He showed signs of strengthing but on Jan 24th had a major setback and needed more surgery. His stomach tube had eroded thru the abdominal wall resulting in bile spreading into his body. He was placed back on continuous dialysis and more meds for lactale and blood pressure. He continues to slowly improve and is back to Dialysis 3 times a week. His trach still remains and still is very limited in any movements. He remains in ICU at Abbott until he is strong enough to go to Bethesda for Rehab. He has received strong support and prayers from all who knows him and knows our family.

James has a wonderful wife Sherea and two beautiful children James age 7, Erica age 5, who miss their daddy very much! They can't wait for their daddy to come home! His son always says "you're the best dad ever"!! We all know this is going to be a very long journey for him! We take one day at a time. We thank God for all the miracles he has shown us!

The financial burden without James working is overwhelming to the family.  Anything will help. Thank you for your support.  James will be in the hospital for several months and his recovery will take even longer.
