Hi, my name is Alexandria & Nikki works for our small family business along the coast of the Yorke Peninsula which has been devestated by the Karenia Mikimotoi Algael bloom, so things have already been stressful enough for our entire community. Nikki has been working for us for almost a year, and within that time, I’ve not just seen what an incredible worker she is, she’s also become one of my best friends, so to hear this devestating news that she has stage 2 cancer is heartbreaking to say the least.
Our beautiful friend and co-worker, Nikki, is just 25 years old and has recently been diagnosed with Stage 2 cervical cancer. On the 14th of November, she will undergo surgery to remove part of her cervix, followed by 6 rounds of chemotherapy and radiation.
Nikki is not just my employee, she is one of my best friends. She is an extraordinary young woman who has already faced more than her fair share of challenges in life, yet carries herself with strength, wisdom, and kindness well beyond her years.
Nikki is a devoted single mum to two gorgeous little boys, who only know that “Mum has a sore tummy.” They are her world, and everything she does is for them. Instead of sitting back and accepting handouts, Nikki works tirelessly to provide for her children and show them the value of hard work. She has never complained, never asked for help, in fact, she is usually the first to step in for others.
But now, Nikki can’t do this alone.
Between medical bills, specialist appointments 400kms away, hospital stays, parking fees, childcare, medications, and the inevitable loss of income while she undergoes treatment and rehabilitation, the financial burden is overwhelming. To make matters harder, Nikki’s hours at work have already been cut due to the devastating algae bloom crisis, which has severely impacted our local café and community and if I could financially help her alone I would, she didn’t even want to tell anyone, that’s just the kind of person she is, but I want to show her that in times of need communities come together and help our own, and there are beautiful people out there, strangers in fact that are wonderful people who will help a young mum.
This is not just about money - it’s about giving Nikki the chance to focus on healing without the crushing stress of how she will keep food on the table and fuel in the car to get to treatment.
Nikki deserves so much more than the hand she’s been dealt. She is a true battler, a hard worker, an incredible mother, and one of the kindest souls you could ever meet. Right now, she needs her community, her friends, and the generosity of strangers to help carry her through.
We recently had a sand storm come through while she was working and it smashed her back window where her children sit, ontop of everything else so she is currently borrowing a car, I would really love to see as many people get behind her to help her through this situation.
