Help Michael Davis

Michael Davis is one of the best human beings you will ever meet and one of my best friends. He has a heart of gold and would give you the shirt off his back. When I was struggling and had nowhere to live, he invited me into his house without hesitation. He offered to let me live with him rent free for as long as I needed. Can you imagine the peace of mind that gave me?

I’m not the only one he has helped through the years. When a friend of his was in the hospital and no one else was making an effort to visit, he went religiously to the hospital to keep his friend’s spirit up and to provide him with the support and encouragement he needed to recover. He made sure his friend knew that someone cared about him. Sometimes it only takes one person to help us carry on and not give up. That is Michael!

Another friend of his had a business that was struggling. Michael dedicated his time and efforts to help his friend’s business not only survive but thrive. We should all be so lucky as to have a friend like that during our time of need!

I could go on and on with examples of the love and concern Michael shows for his friends, family, and community. He is just that guy! We all know the one I am talking about. The one who is always there to help others in need but never asks for anything in return. The type of friend you want by your side when you are struggling and need help.

Let me introduce Michael to you. He is humble, kind, caring, loyal, and dependable. He is a loving, devoted husband and has been married to his wife Amanda, who he loves very much, for over 20 years. He is the primary breadwinner in their family, working for Honda as a service writer. He served one tour in the U.S. Air Force and is still active in his military community. He donates blood regularly as a way to help others in his community. He does what he can to empower and support his friends, family, and community.

Unfortunately, Michael has recently suffered a series of medical emergencies that has left him in the hospital for two weeks, facing a long arduous recovery and rendering him unable to work. On December 22, 2023, Michael was taken to the emergency room with a 104-degree fever and stomach pains, in addition to flu like symptoms. He tested positive for the flu and was released without further examination. Two days later, he was back in the emergency room, in severe pain, doubled over and shaking violently. The hospital originally wasn’t going to admit him as he had already tested positive for the flu and his symptoms were assumed to be related to the flu. Fortunately, his heart rate monitor spiked and hospital personnel admitted him. A CAT scan was conducted, determining something had ruptured in his intestinal tract. He was in the early stages of sepsis. He was rushed into emergency surgery, where doctors had to remove a portion of his intestinal tract. Merry Christmas to him, right?

Since then, anything that could go wrong, has gone wrong. On January 1, 2024, he started gushing blood from one of his sutures. Medical personnel were able to stop the bleeding and repackage the bandaging. However, two days later, his sutures split, and his intestines started bulging out of his incision. His poor wife had to try to hold his insides in until emergency personnel could respond to take him back into surgery for another emergency surgery, requiring large prophylactic sutures to hold him together. Imagine being his wife, not only seeing her husband’s insides but also having to touch them. Happy New Year to them, right?

Currently, Michael is still in the hospital with no known release date. He is in severe pain, with multiple pain medications barely easing his pain. It is heartbreaking to speak with him, as you can hear how much pain he is in in his voice. When he is released, he will need daily in-home care to assist with changing the bandaging and cleaning the wound to prevent further infection. His original recovery time was expected to be approximately 8 weeks but with all the additional developments, it could take up to 6 months or more.

I have started this Go Fund Me account to ease the burden on Michael and Amanda. Michael is unable to work, and Amanda will need to be available to assist with the care of Michael. Over the next few days, weeks, and months ahead, Michael and Amada will need to be at countless doctor appointments, rehabilitation, and potential future surgeries and hospital stays. As you can imagine, the bills are starting to add up, and Michael is stressed about how he will financially survive this unexpected medical emergency when he should be focused on his recovery, as he is facing an uphill battle.

This will enable Michael and Amanda to focus on what is important…Michael’s survival and recovery.

Michael would never ask for himself, so I am asking for him. From the bottom of my heart, I humbly ask that you share this link with friends and family, and if possible, in giving (any amount will help).

I thank you for your support and God bless each and every one of you!!

UPDATE 1/8/2024: Michael was finally released from the hospital to recover. However, he has a very long road to recovery in front of him. Any and all donations, prayers and positive thoughts are appreciated. Thank you!!!
