Hi, I’m Gavin. This is my mom’s dog, Winston. Our sweet, energetic, and happy Winston is suffering from severe neurological symptoms that began suddenly on Thursday evening . He suddenly became extremely lethargic, confused, disoriented, and we believed he suffered vision impairment too. He lost all the vibrancy that made him the boy we love so much. He stopped smiling, barking, licking, eye contact, playing; having no interest in anything or anyone. I took him to Med Vet to see a neurologist yesterday and she believes he is having an autoimmune inflammatory crisis, where his body is attacking his meninges in his brain and cranial nerves. He is having an MRI and spinal tap today for a diagnosis. If the neurologist is correct, Winston will need monthly infusions for 9-12 months to manage his autoimmune disease. All of this while our poor boy is still recovering from his major knee surgery that occurred at the end of February. The MRI and spinal tap will cost anywhere from $4,000-$6,000. Then, the infusions cost around $500 each, bringing the treatment total up to $12,000. If this isn’t treated, the only next humane thing to do would be to put him down. Winston is only one year old, right now and we hate to see him like this. It’s like his usual energetic, playful personality is blocked off by a wall. Anything will help and is greatly appreciated. Anything earned will go straight to his procedure.
