Please consider donating to Garrick’s recovery fund.  Meet my dear friend, Garrick Purdie. As you can obviously see, he’s hilarious. For twenty years, I’ve watched Garrick’s charisma brighten the lives of everyone crossing his path. However, on Friday, April 5th, Garrick was rushed to the ER. It turned out, that the pimple he discovered on his inner thigh just the week before, was in fact, Necrotic Fasciitis. An aggressive, flesh-eating bacteria that requires the infected flesh to be removed and is fatal if not addressed in time. The pimple had grown to a 10 inch long, 3 inch wide gash on his lower abdomen.  On the day he discovered the pimple, he thought nothing of it. Later on that same day, his father had a heart attack, and Garrick spent the next three days at his fathers side at the VA in Fayetteville, NC. Had Garrick arrived at the ER a day later, my friend who’s also a husband, and a father of two, would have almost certainly died.  After two surgeries and two weeks in the hospital, I’m happy to report that Garrick is at home healing. Unfortunately, his near-death experience was just the beginning of a long and tough road ahead of him and his family. As it stands now, with an open wound nearly a foot in length on his lower abdomen, he can barely walk, let alone sit up without considerable pain. Due to his in-home care, his wife Jameka is down to working one day a week. With no timetable for him to return to work and provide for his family, I created this gofundme to help his financial burden. All proceeds from this fund will go directly towards medical and household bills, and other expense related to his recovery. A portion of any funds left after Garrick makes his full recovery will be donated to Autism Speaks.    We are looking for donations in any amount to help easy this family’s burden.
