YOUNG COUPLE LOST EVERYTHING!!!!

My name is Laura Rae and my partner is Kevon Payne. On the 12th November this year (2024) at about 9pm, our house caught fire after a transformer from across the road exploded and a big blue ball of electricity travelled down the power line and straight into our meter box. It only took 9 minutes for our home to be completely destroyed by fire. The fire brigade took 40 minutes to arrive and by then there was nothing to save...

Perhaps fortunately, I was stuck down in Perth getting my car fixed and my dogs were with me. My partner was only 2 days from coming home after being away working for 11 months. We were looking forward to starting our new lives together in our new home that we just finished moving into, in November last year. But unfortunately we are not even allowed within 5 metres of our home due to the fact that the site is said to be contaminated with asbestos. We are currently awaiting the report from the Hygienist. The approx. cost to remove the asbestos is about 50k and they have given us until only the 25th November which is less than a week away.

We have no savings as everything we had went into purchasing the property last year. We didn't have insurance, unfortunately, as we could not afford it, as there was only one income coming in.

Witnesses have said that the fire started by a massive surge from the transformer across the road. The surge was said to have travelled to the next pole which was the one that was connected to our meter box and that was said to have started the fire.

We are yet to receive the outcome as to what started the fire but as of the 13th November the DFES employees on site did not know what caused the fire.

We are in urgent need of some funds to help pay for the clean up but any donations, like: food, furniture, toiletries, clothes, dog food.

**We are currently living out of our car, in our friends’ back yard, with our 2 dogs. If anyone knows someone with a camper trailer or old caravan that they are willing to donate or even rent out for a 6 months period it would be much appreciated.**
