Monika's Manchester Marathon 2026

Next April, I’ll be taking on my first-ever Manchester Marathon, and I’m running for Prostate Cancer UK in memory of someone very special.

This race falls on the birthday of my partner’s uncle, a man who was taken far too early after a battle with prostate cancer. He was the life of every party, the brightest soul in the room, and the kind of person who made the world feel warmer just by being in it. Losing him in 2023 left a hole in so many lives, and if running 26.2 miles can help spare even one family that pain, then every step will be worth it. This is more than a coincidence, it's a sign that I'm meant to run this race for him, and for every family affected by this disease.

Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men.

1 in 8 will face it in their lifetime, yet too many ignore the signs or put off getting checked. Early detection saves lives, but awareness is still far too low.

By running this marathon, I want to honour his memory by doing the bare minimum we all should: talking about it, pushing for check-ups, and funding the research that can change outcomes.

Last year, I ran a half marathon every month and raised over £1,600 thanks to your generosity. This time I'm setting a £2,000 target. Why? It's the distance I've never ran before in one go and I want to complete it between 4.5 and 5 hours.
