Hello, thank you for taking the time to hear my story. My name is Cara, and last year I was diagnosed with acute leukaemia. This came as a shock, because just months before the diagnosis I was perfectly happy and healthy.
In my particular case, I was given a survival of less than three months if I did not take treatment. Conversely, if I did take treatment, I was told that the chance of survival - after two years of intensive chemotherapy, which also had a good chance of ending my life, was approximately 10% with severe organ damage and other complications that would follow me for the rest of my life.
After thinking it over and discussing with my family, I decided that neither option was viable. There had to be a better way. My husband and I were forced to leave our jobs, and embarked on a grand research expedition to try and find out if there was something we could do.
At this point, 11 months after my initial diagnosis, I am still here. At this moment, I am in the hospital with severe infections and fighting for my life.
A ray of Hope has emerged, however, and I was just approved for a brand new treatment that I am hoping will put this cancer into remission. I still have to be able to clear the infections that are in my body before I can start this treatment.
It is a very stressful time, and I have been in and out of the hospital with various infections and complications for 11 months. My husband and family have been looking after me nonstop since this started - 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
we are running out of resources, and yet I feel that we are close to finally winning the battle against my disease. This is where I reluctantly ask for help from anyone who is able to do so - anything you are able to donate will help us to keep our home, our bills paid, and our medical expenses covered.
I am trying to keep as optimistic as possible, anything you can do would be a blessing.
Thank you so much,
Cara
