I stare gazed at all these newsfeeds,
the constant barrage of here and now and, I try and interact through the pain because....
We are westernised and, for us, the impact of Covid is within that,
we have laws and regulations, some 'fall back,' a kind of safety net, some protection....
We all think it's hard.
RIght NOW,
I have a beautiful Brave friend.
He worked 3.5 years as a private security guard, in a school in Nigeria.
He lost his job through Covid.
He also lost his home last week,
His mother trying to commit suicide, and,
They shared a banana in several days, without work and without being able to pay rent they are now, after months, both homeless and, the landlord took their blankets...
Is rainy season, and, colder.
He can't pawn his phone, isn't worth anything to help with this, and, contact maybe his saviour,
The company owe him 7 months wages, but, ignore his calls. Although, they were supposed to contact him.
For the last 5 days, since being on the street he has not eaten, this will be day 6 and, for 2 days, he hasn't been able to drink water, as his stomach is now too painful.
He cannot rest and is fearful to sleep at night outside. It is far too dangerous. He would be mugged. He stays, awake through pain and fear, wet and cold. There are many bad people at night outside, is such a concern....
But, each day he has found the strength to continue to search for work appointments.
My worry is, as his health and situation deteriorate, so will these possibilities.
His mother, also losing her job at a similar time, a week ago has travelled to the North side, looking for work. They are now separated. She travels to look after her own welfare And, David, has only to look after his.
He has no money for her to return by bus.
But, to what anyway??the street??...it's not an option!!.
David explains '"no one cares for anyone right now"'.
These circumstances are difficult for us to open our mind to, to imagine, seeing is believing.
In preservation of life, you can only put yourself first.
In order to secure a new job, for which he has secured 3 appointments, 1 another security job, 2 factory work which offer salaried position with food allowance, He needs an address, without an address, an apartment, he is not considered.
He owes 3 months rental on his previous accommodation with his mum, totalling £600 in UK. And, will need a deposit for a new fixed address. The previous landlord has been paid £50 to prevent David being arrested....this is a temporary measure.
I know he can do this with my help....
But I am helpless,both financially and, circumstantially. I offer solidarity in my belief and trust in him.
I am so proud of his bravery. He's more than desperate, but, he will not give up.
I ask what we will do if I lose contact???, however, I knowing the answer, that it's then too late❣
I'm out of my comfort zone writing this, I'd rather be sorting it myself, taking action, but, I am out of options on that.
I'm more afraid of no reaction, than any at all.
I simply cannot sit back and let this happen, do nothing,
detrimental to my comfort and wellbeing also.
I am writing for help, asking for help, this man 27,
I wish him to see 28 in January 2021 and be working, so willing, so hard working, deserves better And, certainly, too young to die,
This is REAL.!!!!
I believe it is where you are born, you wake up born somewhere and, you are then in the same world, with so much, difference. We are all in this situation, but our plight is far removed.....
I keep his faith alive, with text, keep going on instinct, is all I can and pray he survives this. My friend in need. This world deserves to give you more life.
David really does not know how this fundraising can work.....and I have been honest with him, it may not, but, there is nothing lost in trying.
