After working so hard to get to Canada and reach my final semester of graduate school, I never imagined I’d be facing the biggest challenge of my life. But on March 13, everything changed. I underwent surgery to remove a mass, and due to complications, doctors had to perform an tracheotomy, extending my hospitalization and recovery. What should have been an exciting time—nearing the completion of my degree—has turned into an overwhelming fight for both my health and financial stability. While I’m incredibly grateful for the medical care I’ve received, my student insurance only covers part of the expenses. The uncovered costs—hospital stays, follow-up treatments, and specialized care—are adding up quickly. As an international student, I don’t have access to the same healthcare support as permanent residents, making this situation even more difficult. I’ve always worked hard and pushed through challenges, but now I find myself needing to ask for help.
