This is Copper. June of this year my family and I found Copper and two other dogs over two miles into the woods of FDR State Park — they were starving and they were terrified. It’s clear they had been out there for some time, fending for themselves with no food, shelter, or help.
They followed us out and we were able to get them home and begin nursing them back to health. Copper was injured at the time we found him and recently a kind soul stepped forward to cover his diagnostics and X-rays, which revealed he had suffered some form of trauma — likely from being hit by a car — and now requires FHO (Femoral Head Ostectomy) surgery. This operation will remove and replace the damaged ball of his hip so his leg can fit and function properly again, giving him the chance to live a normal life, without pain, and regain full mobility.
The estimated cost for Copper’s surgery is about $1,500. While we are doing everything we can to care for Copper and the others, this is more than our family can cover on our own.
We are actively working to find safe, loving homes for all three dogs, but until then, we’re committed to getting them healthy and stable. Copper is estimated to be 7 months old and has a bright, sweet spirit despite all he’s been through, and he deserves the chance to run, play, and be a dog again.
Every dollar helps, and if you’re not in a place to give, please consider sharing his story. Together, we can give Copper the second chance he never would’ve had.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
UPDATE!!!! We have reached our goal!!!
If you still wish to contribute we would love to get Coppers 2 brothers (also picked up when he was) vetted as well ❤️
