On October 20, 2020 the world lost a beautiful person, a natural teacher and a consummate giver. MaryL. Casey, our wife, mother and grandmother left us suddenly and unexpectedly. But, she did not leave us without having taught us--her family that loved her and hundreds and hundreds of students-- the critical importance of kindness and the imperative of giving when you are blessed with abundance.
Many people have asked what they could do to honor her, or help in our family in our time of grief. Mary would tell us to act...to DO something...that doing good for others would make us feel better too. While we plan to establish a memorial fund in her name in the future, we have decided to channel our grief into action and honor her by doing good in her name now.
We will be making and delivering boxes of Thanksgiving meal supplies to families in need in the South-Euclid/Lyndhurst School District (where she and her son taught for many years) and the Columbus City School district (where her daughter is a teacher). Boxes will contain all the trimmings needed for a family to enjoy themselves on a holiday she loved so much. We hope to provide at least 20 families with meals in Mary's name. We will accepting donations from November 2-November 16. Boxes will be delivered November 22 & 23.
Any funds raised over and above our goal will be used to do future random acts of kindness...because that's Mary would want.
