Support Larry's Journey to Recovery and Stability

Hey all. We hate asking for help. We are desperate. Larry has stage 5 renal failure, end-stage kidney disease, congestive heart failure, extreme edema, and uncontrolled diabetes. He is very ill. He sleeps 18 hours a day because of the poison in his body. He is having surgery on Monday to have a catheter installed so he can be on dialysis. He has had 2 prior surgery dates but was unable to complete surgery because of extremely high blood pressure. We are hopeful Monday he can complete surgery so he can do dialysis at home.

Unfortunately, he is uninsured because he lost his job in August. He was the breadwinner in our house because of my osteoarthritis/osteoporosis. I can't stay on my feet for more than 15 minutes. I need an ankle transplant.

We are so scared. We don't want to lose our pups (our babies) and our home. If we have to move, it will cost us several thousand dollars because neither of us has the physical ability to do it ourselves, and we have to have a place with minimal stairs that allows 2 big Labrador Retrievers and 5 cats. They are our babies. We are asking for help until Larry can get settled into dialysis and find a job, or have a kidney transplant. We have filed for him to get Medicare to help with dialysis. They also want us to file for disability, but that won't take effect for quite a while and is only $1200 a month. He is only 50 years old and wants to be healthy so he can work. So much life left! Such a good person. So much to give!

Update: Larry has a port installed and has started home dialysis, but is now in the hospital in Carbondale. A month ago, he got a job in Mt. Vernon. Unfortunately, he wore a blister on the side of his foot, and it burst and became significantly worse, with parts of the skin and bone on his foot and toe dying.

He was getting treatment for wound care, but that didn't help. He will be in the hospital for an extended amount of time because he has to have the front half of his right foot amputated, and it will be many weeks before he can even try to walk. He is filing for disability, but we don't know when that will take place, and it is only $1200 a month. He wants to be able to walk, work, and support his family, but that will be a few months down the road. Please help if you can, so he can be at peace with staying at home and healing these next few months. He is so worried, despondent, and depressed about losing his foot and his ability to work.

We thank you for your support, prayers, and generosity in helping Larry heal.
