Hello. This is Evelyn. She is an American Cocker Spaniel, a black and white parti-color with tan points.
Evelyn spent her life in a puppy mill, incarcerated by Amish breeders while surviving in a metal cage. Her main purpose in this world was NOT walks, treats, grooming, warm baths, human love, soft beds and cuddling, but to be a breeding machine to make money for the Amish. Evelyn wasn't given the chance to live her life as a real dog.
Conditions in breeding mills are not pleasant. Life consists of a small cage in unclean conditions often outside with no heat or air conditioning, no medical care, substandard food, a water bowl that may or may not have water, and a dirty matted coat. There is no room to exercise, walk, run or play. Turning in circles is a dog's only option. The dogs who find themselves in these abhorrent conditions are treated as live stock instead of "man's best friend".
In November of 2022 Evelyn was no longer useful to her captors and was rescued by the angels at Cherished Cocker Rescue in Mentor, Ohio. As a seven year old frightened little girl, Evelyn experienced love for the first time in her life and found her "fur-ever" home.
Recently, Evelyn was diagnosed with luxation of the left eye . This means that her lens has slipped down to the bottom of her eye creating a loss of vision. This condition may have been caused by a blow to the head at some point. She also has a cataract in the same eye.
Evelyn needs surgery. Without surgery she will experience total blindness, pain, and will ultimately lose the left eye.
The surgery will be performed at the Animal Eye Institute in Dayton, Ohio with a cost of $3,700.
Rescuing Cocker Spaniels has become my passion in life. I have had the pleasure of caring for 23 spaniels over my lifetime with my first one coming into my life when I was just 6 years old. My dogs are the LOVES of my life.
We are asking you to open your hearts with a donation for Evelyn. We have set our "Go-Fund-Me" goal at $3,000. Every little bit helps! A small donation can make a big difference. Join our mission in helping little Evelyn!
Thank you from the bottom of a Spaniel's heart and may God bless you.
Updates will follow.
