MJ's Surgery: A Step Toward Healing

After several years of work toward this goal, I finally booked gender-affirming top surgery for myself. I started on this journey to address my gender dysphoria in my 34th year of life. The complexity of this situation has only grown since then - to a more and more immediate need in the downward spiral of the current political landscape. I’ve gotten more and more uncomfortable in my own skin as people grow increasingly confused with their "yes, sir... I mean ‘ma'am’?" responses and gawks. Through this journey, my relationship with my chest has always been the same: what I have is not me and surgery will help heal years of gender dysphoria and trauma. It’s been a lot of work: physical, emotional, financial, and spiritual.

While I have mostly kept quiet about my plans, I am SO excited that I will complete my two-week post op check-in right before my 38th birthday. What an amazing gift to myself to be able to step into the next year feeling more myself than I ever have in my own body!
