Hi everyone, it's MJ. As many of you know, I was diagnosed with the deadliest form of brain cancer about a year ago. Here's a rundown:
a) brain surgery to remove 2 tumors, Feb 2022. One month to let me skull heal.
b) radiation to the head, 42 times, March-May. Concurrent, low dose chemo.
c) PT, OT, speech therapy, the works, spring-summer.
d) Grand Mal seizure x 2, summer - fall.
e) 5 full rounds of chemo, summer - fall. Became allergic to chemo after round 5.
I go to MD Anderson because they are #1 in the world for treating the type of cancer I have. It's a huge gift that it's just a 3 hour drive from my home. When I started this journey in Austin, the doctor told me I was dying and had 12-15 months to live, in a tone that sounded like he was ordering a sandwich. I'm sure that had I received care in Austin, the doctors here would have killed me off already.
That said, I'm currently in "remission." Most people who have Glioblastoma never get a "remission" period. I'm grateful to be alive and finally well enough to participate in life again.
But, I need your help. My health care costs, even with good insurance, would boggle your mind. Example: I get an MRI of my head every 2 months. I lost my job last year and am on federal disability. As you probably can guess, it doesn't cover much and I don't live an expensive life.
I realize that January is not a great time to ask people for financial support, but after spending most of my life savings last year, I need help, not just for my medical payment due in a few weeks, but to also stay in my house and keep my 3 dogs.
I have quality time left to live. My doctors tell me my case is cause to celebrate. And your financial support will carry me a long way.
Thank you, truly.
love,
MJ and dogs Kaiya, Bon-Bon, and Dash
