My name is Kevin and I am seeking donations to assist with medical expenses to continue cancer treatment. I was diagnosed with squamous cells carcinoma on my vocal cord. This diagnosis is unusual since I don't smoke, drink alcohol or have an active nightlife. I also don't work in a factory. Prior to the diagnosis I considered myself to be fairly healthy.
Currently, my oncologist in Canada has recommended the total removal of my larynx and the removal of lymph nodes from my neck. This will result in a permanent opening at the front of my neck (stoma) for breathing. This is not something I want to do.
There are several reasons why I don't want to do this.
- It will be life changing for me.
- I will no longer be able to breath through my nose and mouth, hold my breath or blow my nose
- My sense of smell and taste would be impaired
- I would not be able to speak in the usual way (losing natural voice)
- Swimming would no longer be possible and special care would have to be taken to prevent water from entering stoma when bathing, and stoma would have to be covered outdoors to prevent anything from being inhaled.
- I will also have to maintain and care for the stoma to keep the airway clean as well as the skin around it.
Despite my oncologist recommendation, I believe that there are alternate treatments that can be undertaken to avoid these drastic life changes. This includes but is not limited to naturopathic and immunotherapy treatments. For this reason, I am currently a patient at Envita Medical Centre ( https://www.envita.com/conditions/integrative-oncologists-providing-holistic-cancer-treatment-options ). They include these treatments as part of their approach to my condition and I have experienced some success so far.
However, my funds have been depleted and I need additional funding to continue these treatments. This is the reason for this fundraiser. If you can donate, no matter how small, it would be helpful and appreciated. Thank you for the support.
