Hi, I’m Kehli and I am reaching out on behalf of my mom, Beverly. It has been heavy on her heart to try and help a dear family in need.
From my mom:
I met this family about a year ago. I took this picture of them last Easter at our church. I just found out this last weekend they have been homeless since the beginning of March.
The father recently lost his job and they were not able to pay rent on their apartment, so they are now living between their car and getting motel rooms whenever they can so the kids can get cleaned up for school. The mom is working as a waitress at IHOP and is getting transferred to the Englewood CO restaurant this week because they can give her more hours. They use her tip money for bus fare, gas, food, and the motels when they can afford to get one.
The dad is trying to pick up construction work when he is able, but has to be with the kids right now when his wife is working as the kids are on spring break from school. Once they go back to school (after Easter) they have to figure out how to get the kids there - and then the dad can pick up more construction work during the day.
The reason I say they have to ‘figure out how to get the kids to school’ is because in the middle of all this, their 25 year old vehicle broke down and will need major car repairs. I helped them get it diagnosed at the Highlands Ranch Nissan dealer and it is over $2000 for just the immediate repairs - and one of the parts they need is no longer available. In addition, there are other repairs needed as well. Since Easter of last year, they have had two vehicles break down on them. This has been an additional hardship on top of their struggles to find a safe, warm place to live. It’s not feasible to purchase a more reliable vehicle given their already limited funds.
They are both hard workers and are going to school online trying to get a better education so they can get better jobs. They are trying now to get emergency housing though the coalition for the homeless. When they have a working vehicle, in addition to their jobs and school, they do door-dash and Uber to try and make ends meet.
I don’t think their credit is good enough for them to finance a decent vehicle so all they have been able to do is purchase older cars which inevitably need repairs… a seemingly never ending cycle.
They have three children ages 9, 7, and 3. I cannot imagine being homeless with three children. I know they get some help with food stamps so I’m not worried that they won’t eat. I am worried that they have no place to live and do not have a reliable vehicle to get to and from work, school, or church.
I am only praying that anyone who feels led to help them out, will contribute so they can get a decent car.
Pray on it. If God has blessed you and you feel led, please help this precious family.
From Kehli:
As you can see, my mom has a heart of gold. In conversations with her, it is clear that God has laid it on her heart to help this family. If you are able, and God lays it on your own heart, please consider donating. Any amount will be greatly appreciated!
