I came home Tuesday night to find one of my puppies injured. Elvis my 13 month old Rottweiler was rushed to UC Davis trauma center where he is currently receiving treatment. UC Davis called this morning with an update…he’s doing well. Better than they expected. After his CT scan he went to surgery and they stitched him up and luckily his brain was not damaged or injured. The bones in his upper sinus cavity were completely crushed. Vets think someone hit him with something like a hammer…I think he ran into something in the yard as I cannot fathom someone doing that to my baby. However, since I was not home when it happened there’s no way to tell for sure. (I have installed cameras to keep an eye on the yard now.) They want to keep him in ICU for a couple more days to monitor him and his progress (make sure no neurological issues arise) but so far all good news. Elvis’ UC Davis hospital bill is at $10,000.00 so far and will likely increase as he may need additional surgeries. Thankfully I did have the company provided pet insurance on him but they only cover $7000.00 for the year leaving a good chunk to still be paid. I have set up a Go Fund Me to help pay for the additional cost. If you can help in any way it would be very much appreciated
UPDATE 1: He did well again last night and is showing them his sweet self. He was quite upset when he had his initial exam and I was called in to help them with him. He settled right down when I went in the exam room. The one picture shows him asleep in my lap as he was exhausted and just needed his mommy. He’s eating out of their hands and eats a tiny bit on his own. They are removing his drainage tube today and if he continues to do well he will come home possible Saturday. They said there is a lot of swelling but are not icing it as they don’t want to lose the trust they have built with him and/or cause him any additional stress. They also said he’s a super sweet boy that they are all falling in love with.
UPDATE 2: Elvis is home and resting. Added photos of him all fixed up. Thank you to everyone who has donated, sent prayers and shared. Again thank you for all of your help.
UPDATE 3 He is doing well and is getting back to his playful self. He has a follow up appointment on March 8th. He still has to wear a cone but as long as I’m right there watching him I let him have some freedom from it. His wound looks
great considering. Vets expect muscle to grow in where they had to remove the pieces of his skull. He snores loudly now as his one sinus cavity was crushed but he seems to breathe well. The snoring may go away as the swelling continues to go down. I’ve been spoiling him with love and of course home made dog food which he loves.

UPDATE 4
Elvis and I really appreciate the concern and well wishes from everyone. I received a call from UC Davis yesterday that his culture is back from the wound. Vet said he had 2 forms of bacteria in his wound and he needed to be started on another antibiotic. They are still advising to keep a close eye on him for any neurological issues. They are concerned about infection and it entering his brain or moving to his eyes. Overall he seems to be doing quite well. He is still on crate rest and still has to wear his cone when I’m not right there watching him.
