Northeast Coonhound Rescue Heartworm Fund
Tax deductible
Can you help the coonhounds and Beagles that are most in need of rescue ? We have all of our rescue dogs vetted after they leave their southern shelters. When dogs test positive for heartworm disease we are faced with additional vettting expenses. Heartworm treatment takes 3 months, costs a minimum of $1500. per dog, and can be as much as $3000. if the dog is boarded. This can qucikly drain a bank account, but at NECR we will never leave one of our rescued dogs behind due to medical costs. And we often don't know what their veterinary needs will be, since rural shelters lack funds for testing.
In April, Beagles Ariel and Minnie were finally captured in a Missouri field where they had apparently been dumped. When they arrived at NECR's foster home near Nashville and visited the vet, we discovered they both had Heartworm. They are still undergoing treatment and will transport north in July. It has happened 6 times already this year, with redtick coonhounds Sally and Lily Ann, bluetick coonhound Carlton, and Beagle mix Tommy all positive for Heartworm. Adoption fees only cover a portion of our expenses for vetting, transport and boarding. NECR is badly in need of funds so that we can cover expenses for our incoming rescue dogs. Your donation in any amount will help us continue our mission of rescuing Coonhounds and Beagles in need.
