Hi everyone,

Our friend Bob Willis has recently been diagnosed with esophageal cancer, and he and his family are now facing one of the toughest battles of their lives. Bob is the husband of my best friend Jen, a father, a grandfather, and a friend who has always been there for others — now it’s our turn to be there for him.

As you can imagine, the medical expenses, travel for treatments, and other costs are adding up quickly. Bob has already undergone surgery to place a port and GI tube. He is currently undergoing chemotherapy treatments, and then an esophagectomy surgery will be planned to remove the tumor. This is a major surgery requiring the removal of part of his esophagus, part of his stomach, and reconstruction of the esophagus and upper stomach. This procedure will require a lengthy hospital stay. He has been fighting with strength and courage.

Unfortunately, the financial burden is heavy. Bob has health insurance, but it covers 80%, which means Bob and Jen are responsible for the other 20%. The co-payments for the many doctor appointments, his surgery for port placement and GI tube, and the gas for traveling to appointments have put a financial strain on their family. The stress of the continued costs of appointments, surgery, travel expenses, and nutrition and medical supportive care is adding up.

All of the money raised will go directly to help cover:

    •    Medical bills not fully covered by insurance

    •    Travel expenses for specialist appointments

    •    Nutrition and supportive care during treatment

    •    Any unexpected costs that come with fighting this disease
