Medical Bills for Pregnancy Issues

We found out we were having twins in April and after a short period of shock we were excited and of course nervous.  We had been trying off and on for many years  so this had come as a huge blessing.  They determined pretty quiclky that we were having monochorionic twins, identical twins that share the same placenta – this means that there is one placenta for two fetuses.   There are signifigant possible risks in this type of pregnancy so of course once told I went and researched every one of them.  As we got through the first trimester and moved into the second I was feeling much better,  but still had some sort of inkling that something might be wrong even though they were concordant (same size) at the 15 weeek scan.  I was very nervous going into the anatomy scan at 19 wks1 day.  7/7/15 we got some very scary news that Twin 2 was not growing at an appropriate size and was almost a 30% difference compared to Twin 1.

At the time we really didn't know how severe this was.  My MFM Dr. Berry said that it could be TTTS based on the findings but he wasn't completey sure.  What followed was a whirlwind of doctors, scans, and more waiting .  We found out that we were dealing with Selective Intrauterine Growth Restriction (sIUGR) which means that one identical twin is of normal size while the co-twin is significantly smaller. sIUGR occurs in 10% to 15% of monochorionic twins.  We had many questions and some very, very tough  decisions to make.
We were really lucky to have a Fetal Center and top doctors in Texas and support from our families including Wes's sister Noel, who let us stay there in Houston with her during the whole thing.   After being told that twin 2, whom we named Robyn later, was most likely almost guaranteed not to make it and that Twin 1 had a great chance if we had a procedure to insure her survival, we chose to do so.

I had the procedure on 7/23/15. That day we lost one but were able to save the other.  I am extremely grateful for the medical care we received.  This was a very difficult decision, but as of now Twin 1 is still doing well and at her last scan was growing normally which is really great news.  We have acquired a large amount of unexpected medical  bills and Wes had to miss weeks of work so any help that would go towards these expenses would be extremely appreciated.  If you can't give monitarily please keep the surviving twin and Wes and myself in your prayers as we move into the third trimester of this long journey.  Thank you to all for the support and please share if you can.
