My name is Miy Mahran and I am a first generation law student. I am a first generation American, and the only person in my family to become a lawyer in the United States. My mom is a Dominican, hard working, beautiful, strong willed Latina, and my father is a hard working, loving, resilient, Egyptian man. My parents both came to this country with nothing. They worked hard and tirelessly for my sisters and I. I cannot wait to wear my cap and gown and graduate in May 2021 and I am overwhelmed!! This will not only be a celebration of me, it'll be a celebration of my parents and of their sacrifices.
These past three years have been extremely challenging. I have juggled working 2 jobs while also being a full time student. Then 2020 began and the entire world was hit with a pandemic. This past year has been trying. We have all dealt with loss, sadness, stress, anxiety, and still we have had to continue working to meet deadlines, and continue on as if life is normal, when it IS so FAR from normal. The restaurant I worked at did not reopen and I have continued to work part time doing other jobs but I am really struggling to make ends meet. I decided to make a GoFundMe after many conversations with myself in the mirror (LOL) and with family and friends.
I created this GoFundMe to help cover my bar exam & living expenses for this summer. I will be taking the NY Bar in July. It is a 2 day exam with several components which I have outlined below.
If you could even spare $5.00 for a friend, stranger, or foe, I would be eternally grateful. This is the last step for me to become a lawyer and I am flooded with so many emotions: fear, happiness, excitement, grateful...the list is a long one.
Bar Exam Expenses:
Themis Bar Prep Course: $1595
AdaptiBar supplement: $395
New York Law Exam (NYLE): $27
Multi-state Professional Responsibility Exam (MPRE): $125
Bar Exam registration: $250
Bar Exam technology fee: ~ $100
Bar Exam Character & Fitness: ~ $200
Living expenses: ~$4,000
I have also paid for some of these things already on my credit card to avoid missing any deadlines.
I've gone back and forth with myself about making a GoFundMe for months. I finally decided to do it when I realized how time intensive studying for the exam will be. This is the last thing in the way of me becoming an attorney. The feeling is bittersweet and I am so close. I have thankfully secured a job and the job allows me to take the exam twice so it is bar contingent. I hope to only have to take the bar ONE TIME because I don't want this stress again! I appreciate your help and look forward to being a lawyer for the people :)

P.S. I am so excited to get to the end of this long, stressful, and sometimes impostor syndrome filled journey. Thank you for any help, even if its constant words of encouragement. Peace & mucho AMOR!
