Mitzi's Road to Recovery

My mom, who is almost 60, shattered her right leg while mowing the lawn several weeks ago and was in the hospital for almost two weeks where she went through 3 separate surgeries to repair her mangled leg. 

She now has a titanium rod in her tibia and many plates and screws in her fibula, which took the most damage. The doctors let us know that she also had broken her ankle and foot in several places and that the healing would be slow going.

She will not be able to walk until at least December 2017 and cannot even work right now, which is a massive financial harship for my family. My mom also cares full time for my adult sister who lives with her and is on the Autism spectrum. This accident has produced enormous medical bills and they are already living a low-income lifestyle.

To make matters worse I am currently living 3000 miles away in California and do not have the luxury to take weeks off of work to help rehabilitate my mom. She has nurses and physical therapists visiting on a weekly basis and I want to make sure that she is able to pay her rent and take care of the bills that are piling up.

My mom  is the type of person who will never ask for help because she doesn't want to burden anyone, but she has always gone out of her way to help those in need. She has worked harder than anyone I know her entire life and this unfortunate event shouldn't threaten her livelihood.
