As you probably know, my buddy and I run a small colony of cats near my work. We take care of shelters, good, water, spays, neuters, and medical when we can.
Mittens is an original resident and has feline AIDS. This has caused him to develop stomatitis in his jaw which is very painful. The usual treatment involves steroids and antibiotics. Unfortunately, the efficacy of this treatment has gotten less and less over these last months. One course of antibiotics will be over only a few days before his symptoms return.
After talking to several vets, the best course of treatment is the removal of all teeth but his incisors. Apparently, they can go right on eating kibble after the mouth heals! Cats are so resilient!
The plan is to raise money and have this surgery performed and for him to recover at my home in a room he can secluded in. Prices ranged up to $1,700 at my regular vet but we're talking to one near us that does surgeries cheaper for street cats.
Please help our pal Mittens out, he's a loveable fellow that we adore! If the money raised exceeds the surgery we'll put it to the care of the other cats too. There's ALWAYS a need!
