Hi, my name is Nazareth Brown and I’m a recent grad from Howard University living in NYC. This fuzzy little guy in the picture is Mitsou (pronounced like Miso soup cause we black lol). His name derives from the Japanese word kanji光(mitsu) which means light and in some cases shinning hero which is exactly what he’s been in my life. To get to the point, Mitsou & I need some help getting him better by this week or I’ll be forced to make the decision to lay him to rest. About two weeks ago Mitsou’s urinary tract became blocked and he was unable to relieve himself. He threw up about 12-13 times in the span of 24 hours and his bladder was rock hard from built up urine. Luckily, I was able to foot the cost of hospitalization and his cystotomy after searching for many low cost vets and having to max out my credit cards and take some money from my bank accounts. This has cost 10k unexpectedly. Unfortunately due to such extreme financial stress on me, I was waiting until my next check to get his medicated food, but in the meantime switched his food to wet food after his surgery. This past Thursday however, only 6 days after his surgery, he blocked back up. Mitsou no longer requires surgery, but due to hospital fees, medication, and the time he actually needs to recover, I am unable to help him any further, so now I need help. Anything at this point help because it will either be placed directly to his medical bills, or will be placed on my credit cards to help me be able to put more on those. It will cost upwards of 4-5k for Mitsou to be hospitalized and receive a Catheter for the next week in order to fully flush his system out so that his medicated food can help prevent anymore crystals forming in and blocking his urine. The food will arrive on Monday if this week.
Situational plea aside, emotionally I just have to say that Mitsou and I found each other when we both really needed it back in December 2020. I was at a really low, numb point mentally, and his was a scrawny runt being a crybaby (per usual). Anyone who knows me will tell you how out of character and unexpected it was for me of all people to bring home a stray, but he needed me. And to my surprise, I needed him. I always jokingly say picking him up was my subconscious way of getting an emotional support animal. Since we met each other, he’s always been by my side. Many people even comment that he acts like a dog the way he follows me around the house. He’s moved with me from Georgia to DC for my senior year of college, and now from there to my first apartment in NYC. Mans best friend may be a dog, but mine has been Mitsou. Beyond a friend I’ve truly seen him as my child. We may slay every so often, and he has his mischievous ways like any cat, but at the end of the day we always end up cuddled up in bed at night together. He loves me, and I love him, so I’m asking anyone capable of helping to help. I don’t want to have to lay the one person I’ve been able to lean on for love and to love for the last two years to rest. Even more so, he’s only 2 and a half and so full of life. Mitsou deserves to have a long healthy life, so please help me give it to him. Thank you for your time and support .
