Mitral valve surgery for our Border Terrier, Basil
Donation protected
So we have just found out that our beautiful 2 year old Border Terrier Basil has a congenital heart problem (Mitral valve dysplasia) and will need open heart surgery likely in the next 18 months at the cost of approximately £18K! Unfortunately our insurance only covers for the next 12 months and only up to £3K so we have to fund this ourselves entirely
We are appealing to people to give even a couple of pounds which will all help in time for when Basil needs to have this operation.
For background I have waited 40 years to get my own dog and we were very lucky to get our Basil who brings us so much joy, & makes us laugh & smile every single day. He is truly our world & we will do anything to help him live his healthiest, happiest & longest life possible.
Sadly his murmur was not picked up until routine vaccination and health check at aged 27 months. It was classed as grade 2. When I asked for a second opinion it was classed as grade 4/5 and a referral made to Paragon Referrals who have been absolutely brilliant. Next step is Dick White vets who will perform the open heart surgery on our boy. In the meantime we have been advised to carry on as normal but I have to record his respiratory rate every day to see if there is a change in this, and we go back for a repeat echo in a few months.
Thank you to anyone who can donate even a small amount…..everyone helping this way will soon make a massive impact and we are truly truly grateful for everyone’s generosity to help our scruffy best mate x
